Title:A Complete IoT Workshop
Date:9:00am-12:00pm, 9/15
Speaker:Jeremy Foster, Sr Software Engineer, Microsoft

Abstract:In this hands on workshop, you'll work in a small group to hook a Raspberry Pi 3 and a simple electronic circuit and then write the code to send data to Azure IoT. We'll read a camera, flash lights, push buttons, and learn a lot! If you like hacking on hardware and software, or if you have never done this but want to try, this workshop is for you. In this workshop you will learn things like:

• Getting a Raspberry Pi up and running to code using Node.js

• Deploying code to your RP wirelessly

• Wiring up a basic electronic circuit on a breadboard

• Using the GPIO pins to read a button and flash an LED

• Capturing images from a camera and analyzing then using Microsoft Cognitive Services

• Sending data to Azure IoT Hub
Key takeaways:how easy it is to get started with IoT solution prototyping. how to get started with a Raspberry Pi broad understanding of IoT from start to finish
Title:Tensorflow from beginner to expert

Title:Using Istio and Kubernetes to build a Cloud Native Service Mesh
Date:1:30pm-4:30pm, 9/15
Speaker:Varun Talwar, Ryan Knight, Zack Butcher, Google

Abstract:“Kubernetes changed how we deploy applications. Istio is going to change how we connect, manage, and secure them.” - Kelsey Hightower

In the rapid adoption of microservices enterprise have learned there is a lot more to microservices than just changing the application architecture. There is a lot of pain with the adoption of a microservice architectures dealing with things such as rolling out new versions of a service, enforcing policy across groups of services, securing communication and rate limiting.

In this hands-on workshop you will learn how Istio is changing the landscape of cloud native applications. We will walk through deploying each piece of Istio on top of Kubernetes to create a service mesh with policy enforcement, observability, security and reliability. We will show the features of Istio by deploying an Istio Service Mesh on Kubernetes and learning key concepts such as:

  • Traffic Management, Resilient Communication and Load Balancing between Services
  • Policy Enforcement and Rate Limiting
  • Telemetry, Monitoring and Reporting
  • Securing Communication between Microservices
  • Red / Green Deployments
  • Level:Beginner to Intermediate
  • Install gcloud CLI beforehand, here
  • Download Istio, here

Title:Trends in AI for tech startups
    Date:12:15pm-1:15pm, 9/16
    Speaker:Jacob Colker, Vu Ha, AI2
Abstract:In 2017, Paul Allen’s Institute for Artificial Intelligence (AI2) launched a startup incubator in Seattle to leverage their resources — including 75+ AI PhDs — to help build AI startup companies. The first two companies to emerge from the incubator were successes: Baidu acquired and Madrona invested millions of dollars into Inspired by these two wins, AI2 doubled-down on the incubator last month.

Bring your lunch! Come hear from the Entrepreneurs-in-Residence who lead AI2’s Incubator, Jacob Colker and Vu Ha, to get their take on what the landscape looks like over the next few years for entrepreneurs building AI-focused startups. A lively audience Q&A is promised. .
